Info
Eagle Farm Racecourse is set among elegant garden surrounds just 6km from Brisbane’s CBD and is widely regarded as one of Australia’s premier racing venues. The track has a total circumference of 2,027m and features a 434m home straight. Combined with two long, sweeping turns, these characteristics produce competitive, hard-fought racing where horses from all starting positions are given a genuine opportunity to win.
Away from the track, Eagle Farm offers outstanding facilities for corporate functions and events, with multiple rooms located within heritage-listed buildings surrounded by picturesque gardens.
Eagle Farm hosts the majority of racing during Queensland’s Winter Carnival, including the famous Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap, widely regarded as the highlight of the carnival.
Barriers:
1000m – This is the only distance that does not begin on the course proper. Runners start from a chute that feeds directly into the final turn, giving inside barriers a strong advantage.
1200m – Starting on the back straight, runners have around 150m to settle before reaching the final turn, again providing a notable advantage to inside draws.
1400m – Begins further up the back straight, giving runners just over 350m before the final turn. Inside barriers hold a slight advantage.
1500m – Similar to the 1400m start, with more than 350m to the final turn and a small benefit for inside barriers.
1600m – Races start at the top of the back straight, allowing plenty of time before the final turn for runners to find position. Inside barriers lose much of their advantage at this distance.
1800m – The start is on the course proper, partway into the first turn. As the turn is relatively gentle, inside barriers offer little advantage.
2100m – Races begin on the course proper in the home straight, with only about 100m before the first turn. However, the long and gradual nature of the bend means inside barriers are not advantaged.
2200m – Similar to the 2100m start, but with approximately 200m before the first turn. Barrier position remains largely neutral.
2400m – Starts at the top of the home straight, giving all runners an even chance and making barrier position largely irrelevant.
