Hobart Racing Track

Hobart Racecourse, also known as Elwick Racecourse, is located about 10km from Hobart’s CBD in Glenorchy and overlooks the scenic waters of Elwick Bay. What sets the venue apart is its sweeping 360-degree views, taking in iconic landmarks such as Mount Wellington and the Derwent River.

The track has a generous maximum circuit distance of 1,990m, with the back straight posing the greatest challenge. This section rises gradually uphill before runners reach the final turn and then accelerate down the 350m home straight, passing the historic members’ pavilion on the run to the finish.

While Hobart Racecourse does not host any Group 1 or Group 2 events, its feature race is the Group 3 Hobart Cup, which attracts racegoers from across Tasmania. Many locals regard the meeting as one of the state’s premier social occasions, thanks to its strong race day setup and popular off-track attractions, including the much-anticipated Fashions on the Field.
