The drive from Adelaide’s CBD to Mindarie-Halidon Racecourse takes a little over two hours, with the track located in the small rural community of Halidon in the Murray Mallee region.
The venue is compact, with a 1,600m circuit that regularly produces close finishes as runners sprint down the short 280m home straight in front of enthusiastic spectators.
The highlight of the racing calendar is the Mindarie-Halidon Cup, fondly known by locals as the “Melbourne Cup” of the Mallee. This well-loved meeting attracts thousands of racegoers each year, who come to enjoy the laid-back, picnic-style atmosphere that characterises the day.
