Info
Stawell Racecourse is situated just off the Western Highway, around 240km from Melbourne. Located close to the Grampians National Park, the region is rich in natural attractions and steeped in the history of a traditional gold-mining town. The grassed viewing mounds that run alongside the 250m home straight date back to the late 1800s and were formed by miners searching for gold.
The track has a maximum circuit distance of 1,600m and includes a gentle uphill rise between the 800m and 1200m points. Easter Sunday is the highlight of the racing calendar, marked by the running of the annual Stawell Gold Cup.
Many visitors attend the Easter Sunday meeting before staying on for the town’s signature event the following day, the Stawell Gift on Easter Monday, widely regarded as Australia’s most prestigious professional footrace.
