Info
Warwick Farm Racecourse is regarded as one of New South Wales’ leading racing venues and brings a distinctive country-style calm to metropolitan racing. Located around 30km south-west of Sydney, the track sits along the Georges River and is surrounded by some of the city’s most unspoilt bushland.
What sets Warwick Farm apart from many metropolitan courses is its relaxed, picnic-style atmosphere. The track has a circumference of 1,937m and a broadly triangular layout with just three turns. The sharper angles of these turns often favour front-running horses, as they cover less ground on the way to the 326m home straight. Each March, the racecourse hosts its flagship event, the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes, a weight-for-age contest that attracts Australia’s top milers.
Barriers:
1000m – Races begin from a chute just before the course proper, with runners covering around 650m before the final turn. Inside barriers offer little advantage at this distance.
1100m – Similar to the 1000m start, but with a longer 750m run to the turn. Barrier position again has minimal impact.
1200m – With approximately 850m before the turn, barrier draw plays no meaningful role in race outcomes.
1400m – Runners enjoy a lengthy 1050m straight run before the home turn, giving all barriers an equal opportunity.
1600m – Starts from a chute just after the final turn, providing about 400m before the first of two turns. Inside barriers hold a slight advantage.
2200m – Races begin on the course proper in the home straight, around 300m before the first of three turns. Inside barriers have a modest benefit.
2400m – The start is from a chute approximately 200m beyond the 2200m starting point. With a 500m run down the home straight before the first turn, inside barriers offer little advantage.
