As a stakes winner with career earnings of $464,870, Hippopus is considered a racehorse of above-average ability. On March 6, 2016, at Canberra, Hippopus, ridden by Tim Clark, achieved his most notable victory in the $200,000 Canberra Cup, beating Off the Rails. Hippopus has retired from racing, with his final race on May 17, 2019, at Grafton.
