Eagle Farm Racecourse Situated in elegant garden surrounds just 6km from Brisbane City, Eagle Farm has made its name amongst the premier racecourses in Australia. It has a total circumference of 2,027m and a 434m straight. These coupled with two very long sweeping turns make for close, hard-fought racing because all runners get a chance to win from any starting position. Off the track, Eagle Farm offers prime venues for corporate functions and events in its many rooms that are set amongst heritage listed buildings amongst beautiful garden scenery. Eagle Farm is the location that holds most of the races during QLD's Winter Carnival. These races include the famous Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap, the jewel in the crown of the Winter Carnival. 1000m – This is the only distance that does not commence on course proper. The chute that runners start in leads right into the heart of the final turn giving the inside runners a big advantage. 1200m – Starting on the back straight, runners have approximately 150m to find a good position before hitting the final turn which gives inside barriers another big advantage. 1400m – Starting further up the back straight, runners get just over 350m until the final turn and gives inside barriers a bit of an advantage. 1500m – The same as 1400m but with over 350m until the final turn. 1600m – Action starts at the top of the back straight and this time runners have a lot of time before the final turn to find position. Inside barriers lose a lot of their advantage. 1800m – Races start a quarter of the way into the first turn on course proper. The fact that the turn is relatively slight means inside barriers don’t get much of an advantage. 2100m – Starting on course proper in the home straight, runners only have 100m to the first turn, but as earlier mentioned, the turn is so long with minimal angle that it does not give inside barriers an advantage. 2200m – The same as the 2100m races but with 200m until the first turn. 2400m – Now the races start at the top of the home straight giving all runners a fair chance at winning.
