75kms south-west of Melbourne is the Geelong Racecourse. Patrons can travel to the course hassle free via the train which arrives beside the course. The course is popular amongst attendees because of its roomy facilities and picnic areas which include 3 grandstands.The course itself is laid out in an oval shape with long turns at either end of the extensive straights. The home straight itself is 400m with a slight incline and it all adds up to a maximum distance of 2,043m. It is the premier event for the course and is contested over 2400m. The winner of the Geelong Cup gains automatic entry to the Melbourne Cup.
