Race fans can engage themselves in racing action at this exciting course which is just 2km from Surfers Paradise, the heart of the Gold Coast. The Surfers Paradise skyline runs parallel to the golden beaches and is visible to race spectators that line the track as they cheer home their fancied thoroughbreds.The course itself is 1,885m in circumference and has a 400m long straight. This versatile venue hosts races over distances from 900m all the way up to 3200m every Saturday, but it is best known for its hosting of the festive ten day Magic Millions Carnival in January of each year. The carnival comprises of 10 races and an international sales event which has built its reputation as the place to buy world quality thoroughbreds.Barriers:1000m – Races start in a chute that leads straight into the double sweeping final corner. Runners don’t get much time to jostle for position and this makes inside barriers important.1200m – Starting in its own chute off the back straight, runner get about 250m until they hit the final turn which gives inside barriers a lot less ground to cover.1400m – Action starts in another chute, this time located at the top of the back straight which gives runners 400m to find a good position. Inside runners have little advantage.1800m – Action starts in a fourth chute that leads into the middle of the first turn and doesn’t give runners much time to find position. Inside barriers have an advantage.2000m – These races start on the home straight, but don’t give inside barriers much of an advantage.2400m – Runners here get approximately 500m before the first turn.
