Originally named 'The Sandy Course' Randwick Racecourse is the largest racecourse in NSW with a circumference of 2,220m and an uphill straight of 410m. In 1992 the club was granted the prestigious right to name it 'Royal' Randwick by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Located just 5km from the Sydney CBD in the Eastern Suburbs, Randwick is popular amongst race goers who wish to enjoy a day of world class racing before kicking on in the city to sample some of Sydney's diverse range of nightlife or sporting events. The racecourse itself hosts a variety of events including concerts and religious masses, which saw Pope Paul IV grace Randwick with his presence in 1970 and John Paul II in 1995.
